A Foldable Phone That Truly Impresses
I've been a foldable phone enthusiast for a while now, and after using the Samsung Fold 5, I thought I had experienced the best the market had to offer. However, the OnePlus Open has completely changed my perspective. It's simply one of the best phones I've ever owned.
The first thing that struck me about the OnePlus Open was its incredibly slim profile. Compared to the Fold 5, it feels significantly thinner and lighter, making it much more comfortable to hold and carry around. The vibrant red color option is also a head-turner; it's bold and stylish, adding a touch of personality to the device.
But the OnePlus Open is more than just a pretty face. The hinge mechanism feels incredibly smooth and sturdy, and the crease on the inner display is barely noticeable. The overall build quality is top-notch, giving me confidence that this phone will last.
The software experience is also excellent. OxygenOS, OnePlus's custom Android skin, is clean and intuitive, and it's optimized to take full advantage of the foldable form factor. Multitasking is a breeze, and I love being able to run multiple apps side-by-side on the large inner display.
The cameras on the OnePlus Open are also impressive. They capture sharp, detailed photos and videos in a variety of lighting conditions. I've been particularly impressed with the low-light performance.
Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with the OnePlus Open. It's a beautifully designed, powerful, and versatile foldable phone that has exceeded my expectations in every way. If you're in the market for a foldable phone, I highly recommend giving the OnePlus Open a serious look. It's a true game-changer.
Never Settle

Amazing !
I've been dreaming of a perfect phone for a long time - I always need a tablet and phone - now I have all in 1 ...
Performance is great - size is perfect - inside display is the right size - it's all I could ever want in a phone. I used to always purchase Oneplus phones until the look was no longer appealing to my needs. Now this is a phone - sexy looking - perfect in the hands. Can't say anything else but thank you Oneplus [Oppo] for a tablet/phone that I needed.

Exceeded Expectations
Wow! I’ve been holding out on replacing my OnePlus 5 until I found something that would meet all of my wants in a phone. When I started hearing rumours about the OnePlus Open, I added it to my list of potential replacement phones.
As I heard more about the OnePlus Open, it began to check more and more of my boxes: great screen resolution with a high refresh rate, high quality camera, highly customizable layouts, large display. Staying on the OnePlus OS was a major benefit!
I will admit the price is a bit jarring, but this is a “you get what you pay for” situation. If you are a super user of your phone, I highly recommend the OnePlus Open.

One Plus Open PHENOMENAL
In the ever-evolving landscape of smartphones, OnePlus has once again demonstrated its commitment to pushing boundaries and redefining the user experience with the OnePlus Open – the brand's first flagship foldable phone. This device doesn't just fold; it unfolds a new era of innovation, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with a sleek design that captivates from the first fold.
Design and Build:
The OnePlus Open immediately stands out with its futuristic design and premium build quality. The sleek, aluminum unibody frame exudes sophistication, showcasing OnePlus' mastery in crafting devices that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable. The hinge mechanism is a masterpiece, allowing the phone to unfold with a satisfying smoothness, reminiscent of a well-crafted timepiece.
Display:
The star of the show is, of course, the foldable display. OnePlus Open features a large, flexible AMOLED display that delivers stunning visuals. The 8-inch foldable screen provides an immersive experience for multimedia consumption, gaming, and productivity. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures buttery-smooth animations, and the HDR10+ support guarantees vibrant colors and deep blacks, making every video and image a visual delight.
Performance:
Under the hood, the OnePlus Open is a powerhouse. Packed with the latest Snapdragon processor and an ample amount of RAM, this foldable device handles multitasking with ease. Whether you're running demanding applications, switching between multiple tasks, or engaging in graphics-intensive gaming, the OnePlus Open maintains top-notch performance without breaking a sweat.
Camera System:
OnePlus has not compromised on the camera system. The versatile triple-lens setup captures stunning photos in various lighting conditions. The camera software is well-optimized, providing a seamless transition between the folded and unfolded modes. This flexibility ensures that users can capture high-quality images, whether the device is used in its traditional smartphone form or in its expanded tablet-like configuration.
Software Experience:
OxygenOS, OnePlus' signature operating system, has been optimized for the foldable form factor. The software adapts seamlessly to the changing screen size, offering a cohesive and intuitive user experience. The split-screen functionality is particularly impressive, allowing users to make the most of the expansive display for true multitasking.
Battery Life:
Despite its slim profile, the OnePlus Open houses a sizable battery that ensures all-day usage. The intelligent battery management system optimizes power consumption, while Warp Charge technology allows for quick top-ups, minimizing downtime.
A beautiful foldable of 2023.

New OnePlus Open in hand
Wow. Thin, fast and for the most part a pleasure. I've been using a OnePlus 9 Pro and loved the quality and thin lightness of that device. The new Open is definitely heavier and takes some getting used to. But it's about the same weight as the Samsung Galaxy S21+ that my brother still uses, but I've got 2 screens now. I drive a car that includes wireless charging and while I knew this before I ordered, this OnePlus decision is probably what I'd consider the only poor design choice. I've reasoned this was done to reduce weight slightly when comparing to other devices - a mistake in my opinion. I wasn't able to successfully move my 9 Pro Google Messages over to my new device, but I've downloaded a 3rd party app that moved the messages over successfully. OnePlus also includes a device bumper that's pretty good. I'd make a minor suggestion however here too. The middle edge (only) of the bumpers could be reduced in height just slightly enough to make swiping from right or left to be smooth and easier and interference free. Out of an average day, I have the dual screen open approximately 20 of the time, perhaps less, however the device battery seems to discharge faster than the slightly smaller battery on my OnePlus 9 Pro. I wouldn't mind this much as I'm often in my car, but again there's no wireless charging with my Tesla Model Y. I expect the next iteration of this device may have wireless charging and as an early adopter (bought during the release date) I'm S Outta Luck. I'd also like to see more tools or techniques to force an app to occupy a smaller part of the open dual screen. Maybe something that would be an assist to get used to the feature then permit the user to turn the tutorial off. Otherwise this a fantastic device which I've come to expect from OnePlus. The launch day included a complimentary set of the latest OnePlus Ear Buds, which (& especially considering they're free) the buds were easy enough to setup and use, however I'd caution people considering using them that they do not include volume control - again, an oversight that mostly makes them not as useful as they could be - I'll continue using the ear buds I previously bought. This is now the 5th or 6th device I've owned from the company. I do however otherwise strongly recommend the OnePlus Open if you've got the cash and you're ok with the absent features most users would expect to find.

Phone Stellar, but Attn lacking along the way..
The Oneplus Open phone itself is well built, performance meets line to line of all the specs and reviews.
From Screen, to Tactile Mute Slider, to Hinges, and Batteries, all of which are carefully crafted.
Overall a Stellar of a phone.
Where as compared to the entire processing experience..certain aspect can really use some attention, such as:
Logistics, the phone shipped with Fedex and arrived earlier than eta, perfect..
Upon opening the box it arrived in, it had no fillers/air pockets/protection. Just the phone rocking/bouncing around in the box during shipping the entire way. The brown shipping box itself was pretty battered up, half squished, with a gap that anyone could've stuck their hands in to open the package..
Trade In Program generated a return shipping label, instructions are to drop to Fedex, but the Label itself states another courier. If i didnt look i'd dropped it at a Fedex location unknowngly
(In my case, Shipping Label Generated to Canada Post without notice)
Tracking with signature says Oneplus department received days ago, but still unprocessed/no updates.
Also a secondary order placed 12 hours apart from the phone for accessories, extra chargers/cables shipped with DHL..
It's eta arriving almost 2-3 weeks after the phone even tho shipped out by OnePlus within 1 day a apart.
Overall, I enjoy the actual phone, with great hardware, features, and appreciate the R&D that have gone through to production.
The logistic aside from Fedex is a concern, Especially packaging is very lacking on the final details to reach the consumers hand.
Final Thought, the Red Cable Club vs using the Red Coin feature is somewhat confusing.

Great phone but lacking in software compatibility
Overall, I'm very satisfied with my OnePlus Open. The crease is practically imperceptible, and the option to use a bigger screen at a moments notice is a game changer. The camera is fantastic so far, and it's nice to not have to worry about taking my DSLR with me everywhere. The internal selfie camera leaves a bit to be desired, but the outer screen selfie camera works great, as do the rear facing cameras.
The OnePlus Launcher works well on this phone for the most part, but options for the folding functionality are limited. OOS 13 also has a lot of bugs present, but from my understanding this is across all devices, not just the Open.
Lots of apps work well when switching between screens, but there are more still that present numerous issues. For example, when switching from the outer screen to the internal screen while using Facebook, the whole app will refresh. Not ideal if you are trying to get a closer look at something. Other apps have two different display modes based on the orientation of the device when using the large screen, which seems a bit odd, as there is not much size difference in the screen based on orientation. There should be more compatibility settings in the main phone settings to remedy issues with apps that are not made for folding phones specifically. I'm hoping this will be remedied in the future.
The screen protectors that came installed on the phone are major dust collectors. I have had this issue with every OnePlus phone I have ever owned, and I have owned 3 before this one. The screen protectors always leave a lot to be desired. When setting up the phone, there is a warning that removing the internal screen protector may cause damage and that it should only be done by an official customer service representative. That seems like an absurd claim to make, and a phone should not be built in such a fashion that a screen protector is required for the functionality of the phone. It should be optional.

Outstanding foldable phone
For years I have been looking at the folding phone space to find one that would work - but everyone available to me had too many compromises (and cost far too much) for me to justify spending on them. However when the OnePlus Open was released, it seemed to have solved all the issues that I had heard about and I knew it was worth a try.
I have now been using it for 3 weeks as my only phone. It is amazing. It is about the same size in my pocket as my old phone, doesn't feel bulky or heavy. It's actually feels lighter than some of my friend's regular slab style phones. The outside screen is great, like a regular slab phone and similar dimensions as my old Pixel 6. It's also super bright. The foldable inside screen is super bright. There is basically no crease and is delightful to use. Some minor software issues that I think are related to individual apps (eg: zoom) but majority of the apps work well on the large screen automatically either in a "tablet" style interface or appearing like a large app.
The battery is incredible. Even in my first days using it for many many hours on the inside and outside screens, I would go to sleep with 50-70% leftover. I was not expecting a multi day battery on a foldable phone. The warp charging is fast. Cameras seem good, especially the external ones.
I expect some minor software fixes to help some apps with the foldable screen, but honestly this has been pretty good to use. Hardware wise this has been an incredible phone and finally proves that foldable phones are ready for general use.

Really impressive phone, weak case
I've had the phone for a week now, and it's awesome. It feels great to use, migration was a breeze, and it has tons of functionality that makes having a folding phone worthwhile even when app support is limited. It's super snappy and the camera is great. Biggest complaints so far:
- not sure if this is a modern android thing, or a oneplus thing, but there's seemingly no option to toggle the screen to stay on. Which is pretty annoying while trying to use it for something like a recipe. I could go and adjust the timeout to be longer, but my oneplus 6t just let me keep the screen on with a tile toggle.
- bit of a bug with always on display, where the content of the screen just moves around randomly. For some styles it just moves up and down, but for others it just keeps moving further and further to the edge of the screen. Makes it a janky feature, but I'd assume it will be solved with a software update shortly.
- the case felt somewhat flimsy while putting it on, but overall it snaps on pretty well. Except for one edge (near the middle back while open) that's just kind of wobbly and I noticed some sort of adhesive tape from between it and the phone is coming loose and starting to hang out (photos).
But the rest of the phone is pretty phenomenal. It's an expensive phone, so it'd be hard to give it 5 stars if there was anything at all to complain about, but it's a damn good phone.

Should have added wireless charging
It's way better than my Samsung Fold 3. It's nice and light, so I don't feel like it's weighing down my arm while holding it up one handed. Making the front screen shorter and wider was a great decision. I love everything about the phone except plugging it in, instead of placing it on my wireless charger like I have done for 5+ years. Everything runs fast and smooth, camera is amazing (especially for back cover selfies), screens are fast and bright, software is great of course, everything is very polished. The addition of the 3rd speaker is great, music is very loud and sounds very full and spacial. It's an almost perfect media device. I also like the leather like backing on the black version.
If I could have anything, it would be to either make the phone a little wider, or taller. Something that plays 16.9 video bigger. A 4x4" square that folds to 8-9" screen would be ideal. IP68 would be nice too. But let's start with wireless charging.
Also, the outside screen protector is peeling from the provided case touching it. Probably needs to be a mm or two smaller. And the provided case would be better if it protected the large camera glass. Hopefully I can get a more rugged case before I drop it.
